Results of the AKM Video Meteor Network - November 2000 ======================================================= November will stay in our memories because of the unusual warm weather. It's really not often the case that we have +15 deg C and sunshine in the last days of a year. Even the typical first snow in the German low lands late November did not show up. Still, November brought as always many rainy and foggy days. Especially in the north-east, however, there was an unusual number of clear nights resulting in quite an impressive total for this month. We were not fortunate in the single most interesting night of November: We did not only want to obtain visual observations from the Leonid maximum, but also video observations in the field. Weather forecasts had guided a number of observers to the Harz mountains, but even there it did not look any better than everywhere else. When skies cleared unexpectedly just at the peak time, there was no time to setup the equipment. At least skies were favourable in the following night resulting in many Leonid records then. Juergen's camera CARMEN got a new projection lens resulting in improved image quality. Contrary my own camera AVIS got a permanent line-like shadow. The waning moon entered the field of view by accident one morning. Even though the last quarter was already over, it virtually burned into the photocathode of the image intensifier.
